How long does EV charging take at Park King?
Charging speed depends on battery size and arrival state-of-charge:
- Tesla Model 3 (60 kWh, arrives at 30%): 100% in about 6 hours
- VW ID.4 (77 kWh, arrives at 50%): 100% in about 4 hours
- BMW iX (105 kWh, arrives at 20%): 100% in about 9 hours
- Plug-in hybrid (15 kWh, arrives at 0%): 100% in about 1.5 hours
For any stay over 1 day, the car is fully charged on return — even very large batteries.
What if my EV is fully charged early?
Modern EVs handle this gracefully: once at 100%, the charging stops automatically. No battery degradation from sitting at 100%. The charging cable can stay connected. We disconnect at our convenience to free up the spot for the next vehicle (if needed).
Some Tesla models and other premium EVs allow setting a charge limit (e.g., 80%) for battery preservation. Set this in your car before drop-off — Park King respects your settings.
Park King EV charging vs other Hamburg Airport options
Comparison of EV charging at airport-related parking lots:
- Park King: Type 2 AC 11 kW, free with booking, available at multiple spots
- P1 Hamburg Airport: Limited EV chargers, charging fee separate from parking
- P3 Hamburg Airport: No dedicated EV chargers
- External providers: Rare to find EV charging — most do not offer it
For EV drivers, Park King is by far the most practical choice at Hamburg Airport.
Tesla-specific tips
For Tesla owners, a few notes:
- Charging cable: Tesla Model 3/Y has Type 2 native — our station works directly.
- Charge limit: Set in the Tesla app to 80% or 90% if desired (longevity).
- Schedule: Tesla's "Off-Peak Charging" works at our station — uses overnight tariff if your home tariff applies.
- Sentry mode: Best disabled during long stays — drains battery noticeably.
- Cabin overheat protection: Disable for stays over 7 days — uses battery.
